| If
you have any questions about The Marriage Preparation
Course please email them to us at info@themarriagecourse.org
and we will post any new questions and answers
in this section.
As this course has recently been launched we
hope these Q and A's will help us learn from each
other.
1. Can the course be run over a weekend or over
two Saturdays?
The five sessions of the course can be easily
adapted to be run over a weekend or two Saturdays.
Each session, excluding the meal, lasts approximately
two hours but could be reduced by shortening some
of the talks or omitting some of the testimonies
by married couples.
2. How is the spiritual content handled with
non-churchgoing couples?
The fifth session addresses the issue of our
core values and beliefs and how these affect our
behaviour and priorities. The benefits of a shared
Christian faith and of praying together are used
as an example for building spiritual togetherness.
Each couple is then encouraged to discuss their
own core values and how these will affect their
marriage. They are informed about the Alpha course
(or an equivalent course) and recommended to attend
one if they are uncertain about their core values
as this will enable them to explore together what
they believe.
3. Is it possible to have cohabiting couples
on the course?
On each course we have a great mixture of couples,
some who are living together, some who are not,
and some for whom this is not their first marriage.
The course content is helpful to them all as their
discussions will cause them to apply the material
to their own situation.
On the fourth session we address how to build
a good sexual relationship and explain why sex
is best kept for the commitment of marriage. Each
couple is left to work out for themselves their
own views and, from the feedback we receive, those
from outside the church are not offended by and
often appreciate hearing the Christian viewpoint.
