Biographies
Nicky and Sila Lee have been on the
staff at Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB)
since 1985. Previously Nicky studied
English Literature at Trinity College,
Cambridge (1973–1976). He then
taught English in London and in Nagoya,
Japan (1977-1982). Sila studied Fine
Art at Camberwell Art College from
1974–1977. Nicky and Sila married
in 1976.
In 1982 they moved to Durham where
Nicky studied Theology and trained
for ordination in the Church of England.
In 1985 Nicky was appointed curate
to Sandy Millar at HTB where he and
Sila ran the Alpha course.
In 1990 they took a group of 150
people from HTB to plant a new congregation
in St Paul’s Onslow Square.
In 1996 they returned to HTB to support
the spread of the Alpha Course and
to develop Family Life courses. In
1996 they started The Marriage Course,
an eight week course designed to help
any married couple build a healthy
marriage that will last a lifetime.
Since then over 1000 married couples
have completed it at HTB. The course
is now being run in other locations
across the UK and increasingly in
other countries overseas. The Marriage
Course was released on video in 2002
with a Leaders’ Guide and Manual.
The Marriage Conference, designed
to equip couples to run The Marriage
Course, is held twice a year at HTB.
Nicky and Sila also run The Marriage
Preparation Course (for engaged couples),
The Parenting Course (for parents
with children aged 0-12) and The Parenting
Teenagers Course (for parents with
teenage children). In response to
demand they have published The Marriage
Preparation Course and plan eventually
also to publish the Parenting Courses
with manuals and videos.
The Marriage Book, based on The Marriage
Course and The Marriage Preparation
Course, was published in August 2000
and has sold over 43,000 copies. Nicky
and Sila are currently writing The
Parenting Book, based on their two
parenting courses.
Nicky and Sila live in central London
with their four children Kirsty, Benj,
Barny and Josh.
